Is It The Sun?

Research into global cooling and its implications for the globe is long overdue

We may be witnessing the sun’s last dying gasps before entering into a long slumber. The impact of that slumber on Earth’s climate remains the subject of growing scientific speculation. (1)

In 2008 William Livingston and Matthew Penn of the National Solar Observatory in Tucson, in a controversial paper that contradicted conventional wisdom and upset global warming theorists, predicted that sunspots could more or less disappear after 2015, possibly indicating the onset of another Little Ice Age. They stated, “The occurrence of prolonged periods with no sunspots is important to climate studies, since the Maunder Minimum was shown to correspond with the reduced average global temperatures on the Earth.” The Maunder Minimum lasted for approximately 70 years from about 1645 to 1715, and was marked by bitter cold, widespread crop failures, and severe human privation. I think it’s due to solar panels. They’ve been sucking too much energy out of the Sun. sarc

Don’t tell that to Sheila Jackson Lee, she’ll immediately order Congressional Hearings to investigate.

That would be fun, wouldn’t it? Let’s start the rumor!

(My) 7-year-old - that kid's amazing. She's better than me. She's smarter than me. I keep trying not to screw her up....

....The other day, she's asking all these questions, and I'm trying to tell her what I know to be the truth, but you can't just do that. She asks me, 'Daddy, does the Earth go around the sun?' And I go, 'Yeah.' She goes, 'Does it do it all the time?' 'Yeah.' She says, 'Will the Earth always go around the sun forever?' I was like, 'No, at some point the sun is going to explode.' She's 7 years old! Do you understand how horrible that is? She started crying immediately, crying bitter tears for the death of all humanity. And here's how I tried to save it. "Oh, honey, this isn't going to happen until you and everybody you know has been dead for a very long time."

She didn't know any of those things, and now she knows all of those things. She's going to die, everybody she knows is going to die, they're going to be dead for a very long time, and then the sun is going to explode. She learned all that in 12 seconds at the age of 7. But she took it pretty well. I was proud of her. "Ah, dude. OK, well, I guess I'll go play."

not to worry, call Al Gore, obozo or any other nut job liberal, they'll tell you the sun is cooling because of global warming so we must be taxed to stop that sun from cooling

The warmists started the anthropogenic global warming scam immediately after the breakup of the Soviet Union. They concocted their theory in haste before all the facts were in. They wanted to start the process of herding everybody into huge concentration camp-like cities, taking away their cars and other motorized vehicles, cramming them into 12x16 apartments, and making them eat gruel. Walking or bicycling would be the only forms of transportation available to the masses. They would be told what to wear, eat, and think. Of course, private firearms would be banned. Nobody would be allowed outside the c.c.cities so as not to pollute the environment.

Of course, the leaders would be exempt from these strictures the better to traipse around the world and keep watch over potential lawbreakers. For all their terrible exertions, they would be allowed to live in larger accommodations, drive cars, fly planes, and do other things forbidden to the general population. Just like in the old Soviet Union.

“global warming” is a religion. Its adherents fervently believe in it and know that they will be hounded if they deny the dogma.
They will keep this up in the face of proven facts to the contrary.

Factual research and data.

The sun's current space-weather cycle is the most anemic in 100 years, scientists say.

Our star is now at “solar maximum,” the peak phase of its 11-year activity cycle. But this solar max is weak, and the overall current cycle, known as Solar Cycle 24, conjures up comparisons to the famously feeble Solar Cycle 14 in the early 1900s, researchers said.

The current prediction for Sunspot Cycle 24 gives a smoothed sunspot number maximum of about 70 in late 2013. The smoothed sunspot number reached 75.4 in November 2013) so the official maximum will be at least this high. The smoothed sunspot number has been rising again towards this second peak over the last five months and has now surpassed the level of the first peak (66.9 in February 2012). Many cycles are double peaked but this is the first in which the second peak in sunspot number was larger than the first. We are currently over five years into Cycle 24. The current predicted and observed size makes this the smallest sunspot cycle since Cycle 14 which had a maximum of 64.2 in February of 1906.

Well there goes 10 and 6 meter DX on the ham radio bands, maybe more. If the article is correct, the 3000 year cycle of high solar maxima was a great boon to the development of radio communications, I do find it interesting timing. I know there were cases where there were early trans-Atlantic TV reception form the BBC in the UK in 1938 since in those days, the BBC had a TV channel in the VHF-Lo bands around 40 to 50 Mc. I also remember receiving a lot of skip on my scanner in the 25 to 54 Mc range like the California Highway Patrol, Texas Rangers, tanks at Fort Hood, countdown to an underground atomic test in Nevada, many pagers (in the 25 and 43 Mc areas) and even South African police on my scanner when the Sun was active.

“Billy, have you ever been in a Turkish prison?”

What I do with my liberal friends is ask them what happens if we fix global warming but go too far and create a global cooling? Then I ask them what is the consensus on a mitigation strategy.

It usually ends wth my friend calling me a racist. Then we drink and talk sports.
