one man's opinion...

Posted on 07/29/2014 7:04:02 AM PDT by ken5050

Congress finally passed a bill to attempt to deal with the many problems at the VA. Included in the bill is a provision that allows the VA Secretary to fire senior executives who perform poorly or break the rules by lying or otherwise concealing problems at VA facilities. So.....

It's contest time

You are invited to guess the number of senior executives who will be fired between now and the end of the year, 12/31/2014.

Contest Note: The bill also provides that fired executives will be eligible for a 21 day, unpaid appeal process. Those fired, and who successfully win back their jobs on appeal, WILL NOT COUNT. Thus, you could pick, for example, 5, and 3 might win appeals. The correct number is therefore 2.

TIE BREAKER: As we are likely to have more than one correct answer, the tie breaker question is: How many rounds of golf will Obama play between now and the end of this year?

Zero. They will all be allowed to retire, or resign so they can pursue other government employment.

I expect the ones fired by previous administrations will be rehired with back pay.

Zero. FedGov drones never get fired.

You are going to have to define “senior executive”.

There are lots of coat-holders and hangers-on stashed at the VA after they have failed at higher-priority tasks, and some of them have impressive titles.

Unless the buck the system and become whistleblowers. Under other presidencies this would have meant fired, resigned, or retired. Under this it means “terminated” permanently.

They will all either (1) get bonuses, (2) be allowed to retire with benefits, (3) be retrained at expensive “conferences”, (4) be promoted, (5) get the Congressional Medal of Freedom, (6) transfer to another Fed department or (7) remain in place and continue murdering Vets through neglect.

I'll go against the grain, and say: ONE.

It will take a few months to make the arrangements for a new position for the one who will take the fall.

Agree. 0 ultimately fired, ignoring early retires and the reinstated (or promoted).

Tiebreaker: 33 rounds of golf.

Zero is correct.

In 2013, I was a GS employee (gs13). I had my boss come up to note that the hq’s had a gs15 guy who got into serious trouble for comments he made (one can only guess it was against women)...but the hq’s was unable or unwilling to fire him. So, they were shifting him to our organization....and he was the new head of our group (formerly, our four-man group was adequately managed by myself).

I just stood there and shook my head. The guy needed roughly eighteen months to get to retirement age. They were going to assist him in getting to that. Beyond that...he was worthless, incapable of making competent decisions, and was mostly a political guy who made the bosses happy by always agreeing with them.

I drew up my walking papers and just left. I already had a military pension and waiting around for six more years to get a gs pension, in this type of environment....made no sense.

I would not allow these guys in the VA to retire or resign...I’d actually hand over evidence to state prosecution teams (not federal), and let them have a go at putting the guy into a state prison for a couple of years. It might suddenly turn all these VA managers into humble individuals.

It appears whoever wrote this headline had a problem with auto-correct.

Somehow the word “promoted” got changed to “fired”.

I would guess that eight VA executives will be promoted.

Also I predict that some clever Democrat operative will start combining fundraisers with rounds of golf, perhaps offering the opportunity to play a round of golf with the big guy for 100K. At that point Obama will never be seen at the White House again.

Since it is a government organization it is filled with bureaucrats who spend their days figuring out how to game the system for their financial advantage.

Bonus pay takes precedence over anything else because it is how they get around civil service pay-grades

And health of the patients comes AFTER money for bonuses
