Buyer’s Remorse
PJ Media/Belmont Club ^ | 7/8/2014 | Richard Fernandez

...The nation’s intellectual elites made a big vanity purchase in 2008 and the damage from that purchase cannot wholly be undone. Peggy Noonan herself endorsed Barack Obama in 2008. She then wrote glowingly of him:

"He climbed steep stairs, born off the continent with no father to guide, a dreamy, abandoning mother, mixed race, no connections. He rose with guts and gifts. He is steady, calm...."

That collective purchase is going to leave a mark....History is funny in that way. It doesn’t let one off the hook. Kids a hundred years hence are going to learn that this generation screwed up. This generation threw it all away. It can’t be hidden in the talking points. Perhaps this is as it must be, so posterity can hold us up to be negative role models.

[....]

And what a bill it is: the price for all the babies tossed into the dumpster, money borrowed and wasted and the lies we told ourselves. It’s forced on us if only because there are no private vanity purchases where selecting men who control nuclear weapons are concerned — only smart buys and stupid ones — and this was a stupid buy. As any high school student might have told you from the Cliffnotes cheat sheet on Crime and Punishment, suffering is part of the price of redemption, not just for yourself, but for everyone.....

Perhaps the saddest thing about Obama is what Dostoevsky points out. They exchanged it all for an empty suit. The elite traded their heritage: the greatest country in the world for a bowl of pottage that held nothing. That’s what really hurts. How many would now be glad to have what they threw away?

Noonan feared the loss of her status among the “Brie & Chardonnay” crowd of the Beltway elites more than the compromising of her Reagan era credibility/principles. She backed a stone Marxist! Good Lord Peggy...what were you thinking? Now...Atonement.

Noonan should never be taken seriously ever again. No conservative should have been fooled.

Indeed, same idiots in 2012.

This is what the GOPe does not understand. it is not us who should vote dor them, but Democrats. But guess what, it never happens. So Boehner might as well run on a democrat ticket.

Interesting how we backed the very capitalism that enriched these people and they turn around using their money to rule instead of promoting freedom... The anticapitalist mentality ironically comes from the top earners. It is like they do not like competition and want the government to protect their stuff.

There is a problem when they switch from being earners to so called philantropists who churn out churches of their own personalities.

Good article. I’d pass it along to my Obama-voting co-workers, but they would probably read one line and go back to looking at cat pictures.

She was far, far from the only one. Look at the imbecile, David Brooks, who thought Obama would be a great president because his trousers were nicely creased.

I mean come on! The stupefaction the comes over the media when they are dealing with Dem pols is only exceeded by the vitriol that spews out of them when dealing with Republicans.

Remember Nina Burleigh (a middle aged woman, long time journo, not some dumb kid by any means) saying she’d love to give Clinton the “full monica” herself, just for keeping abortion legal.

These people are morons, and yet to a large extent they do control the public because the public finds all this political stuff boring and can’t be bothered to think about it very much.

I don’t know how we break through this iron curtain of stupidity, but we must. As long as the MSM continues to wield it’s current level of influence we are DOOMED.

What ever happen to Chris Buckley? I haven’t heard of him since his glowing support for Dumbo in 2008.

Boy Mojito what an appropriate verse! I grieve for my country - from greatness to ruin.

Peggy Noonan is a well-spoken moron. I give no quarter to anyone who voted for this puke in 2008, save for the extremely low IQ people and the senile.

Chris Buckley is a loser much like Ron Reagan, and, it seems of late, Mike Reagan.

It’s just another example of how so many of these so-called high class intelectual pundits are nothing more than a bunch of idiots. For example how about that writer named Brooks who declared Obama to be presidential because of the crease in his pants or schmuck Chris Mathews getting a thrill up his leg.
