I have a minor in Spanish. As long as schools are not teaching Latin, Spanish is the best gateway to comprehending Latin roots in English. You don’t really attain fluency in school Spanish classes, but you do at least get some mental exercise understanding grammar, roots, etc.
Don’t impede education of English speakers just to make a point. It’s not English speakers who take a year or two of Spanish while they are growing up who are aiding the illegal aliens, it’s native Spanish speakers who have learned some English.

I don’t know about that. I speak Spanish, and I never though it helped me understand English better.
