Hi, Norm Matloff here. Im a professor of computer science at the University of California, Davis, and formerly was a statistics professor at that university, but I also write about social issues. As the saying goes, My life is an open bookyou can read the details of my background in my online bio.
Ive written op-eds for the New York Times, the Washington Post, Bloomberg View, CNN and so on. Bloomberg gathers together its op-eds grouped by author; click here to see mine, and thus get an idea of my interests and views.

In this blog, my topics will often fall into one of these categories:
The tech industry labor market, especially regarding the H-1B work visa and age discrimination (starting at age 35!). STEM education issues. University admissions policies, particularly related to diversity. Chinaculture, politics, language, relations with the U.S. Economics.

Then why did he excerpt his own material?

Then why did he excerpt his own material?
It’s good and worth reading.
Let's see if he actually POSTS any content (as opposed to a lame teaser).
Not off to a good start so far. If the OP is the blogger, he's just using FR and our donations to his own end.
Then why doesn't he post more than a lame teaser? If he thinks it's worth posting, then he can post it, dammit.
If he posts it, I might read it.
I like it.
I already put it in my favorites so it’s handy.
I guess he was ashamed of it or he would have posted the whole thing.
Before the internet enabled bloggers to share their thoughts online they were limited to exposing themselves at people in bus stations.
That’s not nice. Are you saying Jim Robinson did that?
Not likely.
Hi, laplata. He can post his stuff here, though. Freepathons are taking too long, and it bugs me to see attempts to direct traffic elsewhere.
You think Jim is a blogger?
Hi. I understand. :)
Not me.
Watching any of the WD marathon? We have the Blu-Rays, but I still have the TV on, LOL.

Yes, I switch over periodically. I was an Open Carry Independence Day parade and about 550 of us were carrying. There was a man who looked almost exactly like Daryl but he was carrying a pistol. I was going to talk to him but he disappeared. LOL One of my brothers saw him and saw the resemblance, too.
Does the new season start in Oct.? I can’t remember. It’s nice that you have the Blu-Rays.
Even aside from the Daryl lookalike, that must have been one awesome parade.
Yep, the show will be back in October. There’s a preview episode of “Talking Dead” coming on tonight, and another special on Tuesday...”Inside The Walking Dead”, I believe.
Yes, it was really neat. And County Sheriffs from 4 counties led the parade.
Thanks for the reminder about tonight. It should be good.
Is this your blog?
