Reagan contended with the establishment types just like we’re contending with them now. The party was full of those people. They’re the ones who backed Gerald Ford against him during his first run.
And you are willfully dancing around the fact that the establishment GOP of his day were not anti-American/Liberal supporting idiots.
The Democrats of Reagan’s day were far right of today’s GOP. That is a fact. Look that up while you are reeducating yourself on Reagan’s history.
But you know what has never changed? The principles of the Founders and of Conservatism. And for anyone to come among supposedly fellow conservatives and tell us that a guy like Mitch stands for the same things as Reagan is absurd.
What’s that you say? You never said that about Mitch and the crew? that I just put words in your mouth?
Well guess what. You would be correct. You didn’t say it. But you implied it. Either way it’s complete crap because they don’t. You yourself admitted it earlier refusing to defend them on their actions. So you have a dilemma here as well.
How is it you can in Orwellian manner, hold to diametrically opposed positions and believe both to be true?
If they do not share Reagan’s conservatism, and Reagan left the last party that abandoned conservative values, how can you ALSO believe he would stand in support and help reelect the very people he himself opposes?
Reagan contended with them to get the nomination, but once he was President he wasn’t trying to unseat them. Nixon tried something like that and it backfired. Reagan was the “11th Commandment” guy who worked with Republicans even if they didn’t agree with him about everything.
