From what I understand, that thing blows every half million or so years, and it has been around six hundred thousand since the last one, so it’s actually ‘overdue’.

There is no overdue about it. The earth doesn't necessarily hold to schedules we make for it. There are plenty of places on the earth where eruptions went on for millions of years and then just stopped.

I believe they’ve found a pattern with the Yellowstone Eruptions, doing so every half million years. Given it last blew at around six hundred thousand years ago, considering the pattern, one could reasonably assume it’s ‘overdue’.
