Nah, most likely icing on the pitot tubes. The Peru crash was because a plane washer left tape on the static ports and the crew missed it on walk around.
The official report did cite iced pitot tubes, but it goes on to cite the pilot’s inability to fly the aircraft without proper airspeed indications.
The captain was out of the cockpit. Junior officers were on the flight deck.
Pilots should be able to set power, hold a certain pitch attitude, and make the aircraft perform they way they want. These junior officers were incapable of doing that.
Sir, I’ve been training pilots for over thirty years. Today’s kids are computer programmers, not pilots. I train my pilots to fly without airspeed, without gyros,.....everything.
Also, you have the MCO license in Europe, where first officers are cockpit ‘assistants’. They don’t go through regular pilot training.
