Another Friday, another violation of American freedoms and rights. This one is personal. Today, ICANN and the US government announced their intention to relinquish control of the Internet to the UN by 2015. Wheres Congress? Wheres the outrage that should be thunderous over this travesty?
From WaPo:
U.S. officials announced plans Friday to relinquish federal government control over the administration of the Internet, a move that pleased international critics but alarmed some business leaders and others who rely on the smooth functioning of the Web.
Pressure to let go of the final vestiges of U.S. authority over the system of Web addresses and domain names that organize the Internet has been building for more than a decade and was supercharged by the backlash last year to revelations about National Security Agency surveillance.
The change would end the long-running contract between the Commerce Department and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), a California-based nonprofit group. That contract is set to expire next year but could be extended if the transition plan is not complete

Write, call, email, tweet, Facebook!
I’m going to tweet, “Whoever saves the web gets my vote!”
Doing your finances on line are you? Guess who’s watching and will help themselves to your information and your accounts. We need to impeache this bastard and route all the marxists, muslims, socialists, progressives and commies. This is a concerted personel attack on the American public!
Goodbye FR, Facebook, and all freedom of speech.
Every day a new attack on America by this administration
Yes but thank God we dodged that Romney bullet whew as so many here told us so much better with this kenyan socialist traitor at the helm/sarcasm
Tax all emails.
Tax all internet-based commerce.
Send tax monies to the UN and third-world.
CONTROL speech on the internet—no more FR because, well, you know, it offends the ROP.
This does not bode well for personal freedom and liberty.
By the ton.
The fundamental political conflict in America today is, as it has been for a century, individualism vs. collectivism. Does the individuals life belong to himor does it belong to the group, the community, society, or the state? if it belongs to the state then the individual has no right to own guns nor even property or a house.
there are 2 groups of people conservative and liberals. democrats and republicans. but really its a battle between individualism vs collectivism. Im telling you all every single democrat is a collectivist and they are driving us to a state where an individual will not even be allowed to own a house nor property much less guns. but its the same principle : private ownership.
democrats/liberals/progressives or whatever they call themselves are just collectivists which = also marxists/socialists/communists
Individualism is the idea that the individuals life belongs to him and that he has an inalienable right to live it as he sees fit, to act on his own judgment, to keep and use the product of his effort, and to pursue the values of his choosing. Its the idea that the individual is sovereign, an end in himself, and the fundamental unit of moral concern. This is the ideal that the American Founders set forth and sought to establish when they drafted the Declaration and the Constitution and created a country in which the individuals rights to life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness were to be recognized and protected.
Collectivism is the idea that the individuals life belongs not to him but to the group or society of which he is merely a part, that he has no rights, and that he must sacrifice his values and goals for the groups greater good. According to collectivism, the group or society is the basic unit of moral concern, and the individual is of value only insofar as he serves the group. As one advocate of this idea puts it: Man has no rights except those which society permits him to enjoy. From the day of his birth until the day of his death society allows him to enjoy certain so-called rights and deprives him of others; not . . . because society desires especially to favor or oppress the individual, but because its own preservation, welfare, and happiness are the prime considerations.1
Individualism or collectivismwhich of these ideas is correct? Which has the facts on its side?
Individualism does, and we can see this at every level of philosophic inquiry: from metaphysics, the branch of philosophy concerned with the fundamental nature of reality; to epistemology, the branch concerned with the nature and means of knowledge; to ethics, the branch concerned with the nature of value and proper human action; to politics, the branch concerned with a proper social system.

democrats are pure unadulterated evil
Maybe some good will come of it. Perhaps they can finally regulate the presentation of filth to children without the perverts hiding behind a misguided application of the first amendment to claim any restrictions are forbidden.
As long as they get their kickbacks, and invited to all the right parties, they're cool with anything.
C’mon people, fight this! I don’t know when everyone decided to take every dictate by Obama as a fait accompli but it’s not. Or at least it’s not if Americans fight back.
Our founders would never have created our government if they’d sat around and said, “yeah, they’re ruling and abusing” or “yeah, it’s really bad”. Get your back up for God’s sake, write, email, tweet, organize protests, don’t just take it as another nail in our coffin or they’re going to start shoveling in the dirt real soon.
I agree. Fight, obstruct, repeal, kick butt no matter how hard or how long.
Actually, in a free country you can have all the collectivism you want. It’s called “insurance”.
In a free country an individual is not forced by the government to buy insurance. So the USA is not a free country anymore
anyone is free to buy insurance or live in a private commune or whatever . that’s called freedom, liberty and freedom of choice. it’s when democrats use government to force the rest of us to comply with collectivism that it is a problem
Supposedly that company will be chosen because they provide the best service at the lowest price.
Instead they will be chosen by the same criteria as cities are chosen for hosting the Olympics.
The system will be run poorly, deteriorate over time, and will have monitoring technology embedded at every layer.
This will NOT become a fail because of the socialists, but because of the self-proclaimed "capitalists" who were able to bribe the most politicians and provide the best whores and blow.
Exactly, this just about puts to an end all security when it comes to online transactions not to mention them censoring anything they feel like now. “Oh look, Freerepublic insulted the UN? Well how about we just not show that website anymore.”
And where is your proof that Romney would have been any better at the helm?
