Don’t they use children’s blood in the communion wine or have I got that confused with somebody else?

Not Catholics! We use wine.
I don’t know of any religion of God that uses blood.

The Romans seem to have believed that the early Christians killed children in their meetings. When Pliny the Younger was governor of Bithynia about 111, he investigated the local Christians and wrote a letter to Trajan telling what he had discovered--he seemed to be amazed that the Christians ate ordinary food in their meetings.
Later in the Middle Ages the infamous "blood libel" claimed that Jews kidnapped and killed Christian children to use their blood.
