It appears to be more predominate in Blacks but when my youngest daughter had gotten a couple of A’s on some English papers and wanted a ‘reward’ (or at least some recognition - I came up ‘short’ in heaping praise) and after my obligatory ‘An A is no less than what I expect’ I kind of eyeballed it and there were some glaring punctuation and spelling errors (I say glaring because a misspelled word kind of ‘jumps off the paper’ at me) and I did contact the teacher and asked why an ‘A’ with all the mistakes....I was very bluntly told the score was for the work and presentation, it had nothing to do with spelling or grammar AND I should be encouraging her, not nit picking....
And this was in Fairfax County VA about 25 or so years ago.
That would be “predominant.” It kind of jumped off the page at me.
