If they can’t even use rudimentary grammar correctly, they’re certainly not ready for university studies and should be dismissed “without prejudice” from UCLA (which was once known for being a pretty good college).
There are a thousand high school continuation programs in California, plus 120 community colleges where they go take some remedial English courses. They don’t have to be, should not be... occupying seats at the University, seats which could, should go to people who ARE prepared for university level studies. (Note that, other than these exceptions, only the top-ranked students are even considered for admission to UC....there are thousands of rejected applicants who’d love (and who are ready) for the opportunity to attend UCLA...but for all these seats being taken up by folks who are obviously NOT prepared to be there.)
You understand that we are talking about students in a Ph.D. program in education.
I agree. They should NOT be there at all. The University of California system, BY LAW is only supposed to take the top 12.5% academically. And there have been cases of “reverse discrimination” where sometimes by enough bitching “the public at large” is able to bring things back into line when the “affirmative action” gimmes get too ridiculous. It’s obvious the pendulum has once again gone far off kilter from where it should be. It’s one thing to give a kid from a poor rural background where there are few opportunities to take AP courses and the like, and it’s one thing if the kid has good recommendations and is just a little below what the average academic intake is — but to be this far “outlier” is insane. Let them improve and take remedial in the Community Colleges, which take ANYONE age 18 or over (or sometimes even under if they get school’s permission and have their HS’s permission) - that’s what they were designed for. A catch all for every one and anyone. You’ll find kids who ARE university ready some times going there to save money and get distribution requirements out of the way, and then going to UC or the Cal state system (which take the top 1/3 academically.)
These dummies should be EMBARRASSED to parade their ignorance. Pity the poor Asian student who got screwed out of a place at UC because somehow THOSE minority students stack up at the top and since there “too many” of them, their places get taken away and given to these dumb bozos for the sake of “diversity.”
