Alas, a neglected part of my education. I should pick up where I left off.

Mine, as well. It was the 1980 BBC production of Pride and Prejudice that captivated me. Fast forward to last autumn when Persuasion aired on TCM and that film rekindled the spark. I was off and running on the internet, in search of more information and was not disappointed. There are a wealth of sites devoted to Jane Austen, some of which provide extensive and fascinating information on the Regency Period in which her novels are set. Jane was quite a character. Her novels are filled with moral instructions that point one towards a more moral life—where "moral" refers not only to right principles but to conduct in general. Her works are timeless.

The next time you are in the mood for a good read, visit THIS SITE. Scroll down the page and you will find links to her works. These can be read online and give you a taste of what to expect. Seeing her works interpreted into film was what caught my attention. With your great appreciation for the English language, you will delight in the vocabulary of that period.
