Perhaps, from your perspective cva. But the “black/slave angle” is self-evident. Even the most fervent neo-cornfederates admit that “slavery was dying out” (as part of their rationalism for legitimizing the insurrection). The dismantlement of The Particular Institution was inevitable - it would not be stopped, but could be shaped. Unfortunately the slavocracy-led south wished to hold on - at any cost.
Specific to the “black/slave angle” and ForAmerica’s question - for the brief moment that Texas would be separate from the United States it would (by virtue of the desires and aspirations of its rulers) be a slave state. And then history and events would overtake them and he (and Texas) would be right where they are.
