Today I took the plunge. I changed my voter registration from Republican to Independent. I have been a faithful Republican for more than 50 years but no more. I will vote Republican when I see good conservatism but otherwise abstain or vote for someone else. Until I move from California to Texas that probably means I will abstain. So be it. The Republican party has lost me. I like the sound of it-Independent!

I can understand that. A vote for the Republican Party now means a vote for Amnesty among other small acts of treason. The Democrats at least tell you to your face that they are your enemy.

All we need now is a second party.

Good for you. May many more join us.

I did the same thing back in 2007 right after Bush said, "See you at the bill signing". And not once have I regretted it.
btw...you should be sure to let the GOP know what you did and why the next time they call you seeking contributions.

The only viable courses of action are: 1) Take over the Republican Party and make it a Constitutional party; 2) Destroy the Republican Party and replace it with a Constitutional party.
Where does becoming an Independent fit into either of the above plans?
To: uscga77
Congrats. Now you can’t vote for Tea Part candidates or against GOPe in primaries.
Smart move.
To: Jack Hydrazine
true, and I wonder if it would really be allowed to take root?

Where I am, if you tell them you’re independent, they’ll sign you up for the Independent party. Telling them no affiliation works better.

The one advantage of staying R in some states is that this is required for you to be allowed to vote in R party primaries. So you get your voice in which candidates they run.
