In CO if you are reasonably in fear for your life, you can use deadly force to protect yourself. Given the fact that people have died from a single blow I would say any physical altercation is potentially life threatening. At any point in a fight someone may pick up a weapon, a rock, bottle, tire iron, etc. So letting yourself be beaten senseless or stunned just leaves you defenseless. I'd say any physical attack involving punches, kicks, throws is potentially deadly.

That said, alcohol and firearms do not mix - unless you're using some kind of alcohol based cleaner/de-greaser. In CO he would be in violation of the law for being in possession of a firearm while under the influence. If I'm going out, even for just one beer with friends while watching a game - the Glock stays home.

I do not know that he drank any alcohol. It would be interesting to know if he did.

I did not see it mentioned in the articles I read about the case.

How do you get home after that one beer? Drive? So you are competent to know if you should or shouldn't drive. And you are confident you can drive correctly and safely. So it seems like you should be fine with a gun. I think carry should have the same restrictions as DUI, but more than that is unwarranted.

I am not saying this guy was right. Clearly the Glock should stay home if you are planning bar crawl.

If moderate use of alcohol affects your judgment so much that you cannot trust yourself after a couple beers, if you become more dangerous to others than they may be to you, then you’re probably doing the right thing.
