Was last online with it when I had sbcglobal DSL.

What security scheme are you using. If you used allowed MAC addresses on your router you will have to add the old dells MAC address to the router. If you use a router
password you might have to add the neteork password to your dell. Look at the network icon in the taskbar. Is the router showing up

If your old dell is XP it js a little harder to set uo. Go to the control panel and look for network. It will have some set up functions there.
