"We may very well decide on humanitarian grounds, that we must allow some of the people who have come here in violation of the law and who have stayed here in violation of the law, and who have worked here in violation of the law, to have some legal status to live and work here. We DO NOT OWE THEM ANYTHING ELSE! And we especially do not owe them the right to vote. If we grant such people the vote, we would be MAKING A GRAVE MISTAKE.
