The only time I’ve managed to get vegetable oil to burn in an oil lamp is by mixing it 50/50 with lamp oil/refined kerosene.
Have seen it on the net, but no luck.

You must have crappy vegetable oil in UK, because the stuff I use for my turkey deep frier burns just swell....
