Dispelling Myths: The Case for Immigration Reform [Enjoy your made-in-America ZOT, troll]
Red Dirt Report ^ | 12/27/2013 | Brian Woodward

Posted on 12/27/2013 11:24:17 AM PST by honestabe010

In his press conference on December 20th, President Obama urged the House of Representatives to support the Senate’s immigration bill, which passed 68-32 in late June. Among the concerns cited by Americans who oppose reform are that immigrants will take their jobs, drive down wages, increase criminal activity, burden the welfare system, and reshape the cultural dynamic of the country. These concerns are mostly ill-founded. The legitimate concerns have real solutions, and a more open immigration policy will be a net benefit for all Americans...

Highlights from Article:

- A 2013 study by the American Action Forum states that "immigration reform can raise population growth, labor force growth, and thus growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).”

- In 2013 the Bipartisan Policy Center came to similar conclusions. It makes the prediction that current provisions, as included in the Senate Bill, would raise GDP 4.8 percent over twenty years.

- According to the Immigration Policy Center, immigrant males between the ages of 18 and 39 (which constitute the greatest portion of the prison population) are five times less likely to be incarcerated than are natives.

- A 2011 survey by the Pew Research Center revealed that 92 percent of second generation and 96 percent of third generation Hispanics speak English proficiently.

- A 2010 Gallup poll revealed that Hispanics attend church services more often than non-Hispanic whites.

- Since an influx of immigrants means an expansion of the labor supply, many assert that the result will be less jobs and lower wages. However, as asserted by Jason Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board, “The number of jobs in the United States is not static. It’s fluid, which is how we want it to be.”

Would that be a suitable tagline? “Absinthe makes the heart fondue?”

Since I don’t know how old you are, I’m thinking what I said was a revelation, of sorts! But yes...I was born in 1944.

And THANKS! I needed that compliment! After my bout with the ulcers and the heart attack, it’s nice to know I’m almost back to my normal self! YAY!! ;o]

Nully, after Face’s second eye surgery ... Face looked at me and declared that I looked better before her surgery. Me ego took a hard hit that day. Then she caught what she had said and said everything was blurry .... I know the truth though. Nully is better looking.

It is, that! Of course, because I couldn’t afford the multi-focal lenses ($1600 an eye) I have several pairs of reading glasses in varying strengths. But it is SO nice to wake up and not have to put on glasses or put in contact lenses!!

If Mrs. NtI is still contemplating the surgery, I would encourage her to do so, as it is so liberating!

I tried to explain to Busdaddy what seeing was like with cataracts, and one day, we were coming back from breakfast at IHOP, and I said, “You see that layer of smog?” Yes, he did. “I was looking at the world through that band of ugly brown gunk. That’s why I couldn’t see at night to drive, and why I had to have so many lights on in the house.”

I think he finally understood!

If Mrs. NtI is still contemplating the surgery

We are halfway there. One eye left to be done next week. She saw me with her good eye clearly the next day after the first eye correction and declared I looked worse than she thought. These corrective eye surgeries have been a curse for my ego.

Nully I think I finally understand. Never let a woman, especially a wife see yourself after corrective eye surgery. They see too well at that point and can spot ugly. I married a woman in glasses ... thick glasses ... because I knew she had no idea what I looked like. It was good that way. Am beginning to dislike eye doctors and may have to complain to the Medical Association.
