Dispelling Myths: The Case for Immigration Reform [Enjoy your made-in-America ZOT, troll]
Red Dirt Report ^ | 12/27/2013 | Brian Woodward

Posted on 12/27/2013 11:24:17 AM PST by honestabe010

In his press conference on December 20th, President Obama urged the House of Representatives to support the Senate’s immigration bill, which passed 68-32 in late June. Among the concerns cited by Americans who oppose reform are that immigrants will take their jobs, drive down wages, increase criminal activity, burden the welfare system, and reshape the cultural dynamic of the country. These concerns are mostly ill-founded. The legitimate concerns have real solutions, and a more open immigration policy will be a net benefit for all Americans...

Highlights from Article:

- A 2013 study by the American Action Forum states that "immigration reform can raise population growth, labor force growth, and thus growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).”

- In 2013 the Bipartisan Policy Center came to similar conclusions. It makes the prediction that current provisions, as included in the Senate Bill, would raise GDP 4.8 percent over twenty years.

- According to the Immigration Policy Center, immigrant males between the ages of 18 and 39 (which constitute the greatest portion of the prison population) are five times less likely to be incarcerated than are natives.

- A 2011 survey by the Pew Research Center revealed that 92 percent of second generation and 96 percent of third generation Hispanics speak English proficiently.

- A 2010 Gallup poll revealed that Hispanics attend church services more often than non-Hispanic whites.

- Since an influx of immigrants means an expansion of the labor supply, many assert that the result will be less jobs and lower wages. However, as asserted by Jason Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board, “The number of jobs in the United States is not static. It’s fluid, which is how we want it to be.”

Good morning. It’s currently 30 here, but 56 is predicted. DP and a group have gone Scouting For Food. I have the babies and couple of teenagers who didn’t get up in time.

I have figured out that I will be able to maintain my (illusion of) perpetual youth only if I can successfully stave off the attitudes of teenager-hood.

And that's even with the decimal shift.

As my mother used to say about a cat who rarely moved, “They’re saving themselves.”

My late sister-in-law had a tile in her kitchen that said, in Spanish, “Beauty sits and then does nothing.” I don’t know how to translate that, but I believe it is a truism!

You’ve mentioned that in reference to Bill the Inert. Speaking of which, I think he’s still basking ...

At least Tom is out hustling food. To give credit where do, he knows the food goes to the food bank and not to him ;-).

I've been preserving my "beauty", mostly by dehydration.

You’re letting your cats die of thirst?

If you caricature yourself, in my presence, you become a character in one of my stories.

If I could translate that, I would find a white tile somewhere and paint the words in blue and hang it up. It’s worth displaying!

The doctor visit yesterday kinda took the wind out of my sails, for some reason. I will need a driver, but I’m thinking the first, most obvious choice is not going to be available, no matter when I schedule the test.

Pretty sad...I’ve learned not to depend on him.

Because I’m going to be anesthetized for the procedure, I’m not allowed to drive me to or from the surgical center. Whoever takes me has to stay there for the entire time or the procedure will be cancelled. I can’t imagine Busdaddy sitting for about four hours, doing nothing.

So I won’t even bother to ask him. I’ll just try to find someone else who won’t mind the boredom quite so much.

I wasn't talking about cats. I said, that to preserve my "beauty", I was using dehydration therapy, meaning I'm becoming a wrinkled old prune.

Of course, I didn't want to say that, so I hope you're satisfied now!

Meanwhile, I'll just go back to my comfortable delusions. Thank you very much.

(Later. I'll be traveling now.)

Everything medical presents a challenge for me, since I’m single. There has been no one in my life for the last 30 years who has been dependable. I don’t know if it’s just me, because I don’t have that many friends, or if the friends I pick are just not dependable people.

Every time I’ve asked my daughter, she has said no, using work as an excuse. But then she can turn around and take a day off for herself. I don’t understand that. I could accept this a lot easier if I were just told, “I would prefer not to do it,” or “I don’t think I want to tie up my time like that,” or even, “No, I really don’t want to.”

*sigh*

It’s not your fault I’m befuddled, and I hadn’t noticed your being particularly prunelike, either.

Have a nice travel! Some of my Offspring have returned from Scouting For Food, so now I have to figure out something for them to do.
