In his press conference on December 20th, President Obama urged the House of Representatives to support the Senates immigration bill, which passed 68-32 in late June. Among the concerns cited by Americans who oppose reform are that immigrants will take their jobs, drive down wages, increase criminal activity, burden the welfare system, and reshape the cultural dynamic of the country. These concerns are mostly ill-founded. The legitimate concerns have real solutions, and a more open immigration policy will be a net benefit for all Americans...
Highlights from Article:
- A 2013 study by the American Action Forum states that "immigration reform can raise population growth, labor force growth, and thus growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
- In 2013 the Bipartisan Policy Center came to similar conclusions. It makes the prediction that current provisions, as included in the Senate Bill, would raise GDP 4.8 percent over twenty years.
- According to the Immigration Policy Center, immigrant males between the ages of 18 and 39 (which constitute the greatest portion of the prison population) are five times less likely to be incarcerated than are natives.
- A 2011 survey by the Pew Research Center revealed that 92 percent of second generation and 96 percent of third generation Hispanics speak English proficiently.
- A 2010 Gallup poll revealed that Hispanics attend church services more often than non-Hispanic whites.
- Since an influx of immigrants means an expansion of the labor supply, many assert that the result will be less jobs and lower wages. However, as asserted by Jason Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board, The number of jobs in the United States is not static. Its fluid, which is how we want it to be.

Jake went out a second time. Now that it’s beginning to get light, birds are at the feeders, and he would like to kill them. I hear Shannon beating something up in the other room: could be a bag, a sock, or even a pillow.
I’m glad your floods are down. It would be interesting to see Glastonbury.
Wow!
The locals don’t seem to impressed with the government response.
This is what happens when the country’s maintenance budget is axed and the money spent on nonsense high speed rail links under...London (crossrail).(800bn).
That is what gets the goat.
This place isn’t broke for funds, they are just wasted. Then the gov pleads poverty, it is nauseating.
Nigel Farrage, please pick up the white courtesy phone!
That sounds very familiar!
Have noticed something interesting with the current debates and laws being passed between the two countries lately.
Not going to reveal my hand just yet, but someting is...hugh and series.
Go with the sub-floor heating if possible. It will be the most comfortable.
It could act as a zone off your current system, or you could investigate setting up a small-scale geothermal loop where heat is extracted from deep underground, released into your floor, and pulled from other parts of the house when the summer kicks in.
If you’re going to be doing any power excavating, it should not be too much additional cost. A vertical bore for geothermal extraction doesn’t even leave a large footprint.
The advantage of geothermal heat is that even though it’s driven by electricity, the heat source is well above freezing, as opposed to air-to-air exchangers which have virtually no heat content available in your climate.
Good morning, Bob.
My favorite place not to be...at a hissing booth! LOL!
How awful would that be? I can’t imagine wading around in cold water in the middle of winter...
Good Morning! A town in wintry paralysis is always peaceful.
It’s very quiet out there.
.
Needs some ... Darksheare.
Maybe I’ll fix some coffee this morning. I’ve. Got. The. Slows.
Snow on the ground, I can handle. Water on the ground, not so much.
The dentist is closed today. I’m thinking of vacuuming.
I have to finish packing the last box, then clean up the mess I made sorting and bagging.
Then I have to sort my pills for the next week. *sigh* It seems I keep adding more. Wassupwithat?
Other than that, there are no plans for the next two days. Friday, I have a consult about the upper and lower GI tests, and the stress test has been rescheduled for the 17th of February; I’m still trying to get in touch with the dental clinic...GAH!
It’s supposed to be about 70+ today, but overcast and as usual, colder weather is right behind it.
I’ve started vacuuming. I’m also doing laundry, running the dishwasher, and a couple of other things. The girls went outside, except for Kathleen, who said, “Outside, NO!”
Colorfonts ... love ‘em!
I may vacuum, too, but I have to make sure I picked up all the beads I dropped yesterday. And I’m not excited about housework...
So it’s off to the salt mines I go. The sun is trying very hard to shine through the clouds and come in my living room window. :o])
The bird is trying to destroy the cage again...
We’re at -4 and heading for a balmy 20.
It’s a heatwave I tells ya’!
Pets are great ...
It will be lunchtime here soon. I changed the bag in the Riccar. After lunch, I’ll read “The Two Towers” to the byos, since they aren’t doing anything else worthwhile with the day.
