How swarthy is pure conjecture...I tend to think Med peoples were less swarthy in antiquity than now and depending on who’s writing it...research bears that out...how much less swarthy who knowsThe Fayum Portraits (same time period, about first century BC/first century AD) can probably give us a good idea of what people in the area looked like then.
These were "realistic" funerary portraits of people.

Maybe the only white man they ever saw in real life was the landlord.
They would be more comfortable with a Santa who looked like Rev Al Sharpton in a beard.

For all the snarky replies, if would seem that some knew Him personally. You would have thought I had indicated Mongolian :D (again, if one cannot tell that/this was SARCASM)
Since I don’t know, I based by quip upon the current regional demographics and occupation. As you state: thin, olive complexion (or a NICE tan), darker cut hair (could you imagine the grooming for that hippie look?!) and scruffy (beard/’stache). Hell, I’d even so far as to take Him all the way black (ala Sammy Davis Junior) [again SARCASM].
People just need to back up and chill-out with the knee-jerks. You’d think it was a personal affront about their immediate family (oh, here it comes again)

There’s no actual description of Jesus, but I think he would have looked like your average Middle Eastern fellow in his late 20s to early 30s that you’d see nowadays. Well, obviously. If he looked like as white as the traditional pictures, the arresting centurion wouldn't have needed Judas to finger him -- he would have stood out like a sore thumb.
