The article doesn’t mention crack, but freebasing. Whcich was popular in the 70s.

I think whomever wrote the first line of that article was confused.
Ms. Pope refers to freebasing (in the 1970s) in her statements.
Larry Sinclair is the one who claims to have smoked crack with Obama (in the 1980s).
So it appears those making the claims at least have their “cocaine chronology” correct, even if the reporter doesn’t.
Free base in the 70’s essentially the same as crack in the 80”s & 90’s. Remember Richard Pryor’s flameout.
