Chicago Gun Control Targets Restaurants

The Chicago City Council has decided to strengthen their gun control laws by targeting and financially damaging local businesses that don’t ban guns. The Chicago Tribune has the story.

The council adopted a plan to revoke liquor licenses from restaurants that do not ban firearms.

It’s the City Council’s latest attempt to toughen Chicago’s gun laws despite a federally mandated state law passed by the General Assembly allowing concealed handguns to be carried.

Gun rights advocates have promised a lawsuit. Ald. Edward Burke, 14th, said the law firm Jenner & Block has pledged to defend the city in court for free if such a suit is filed.

After the vote, Mayor Rahm Emanuel told reporters that outlawing guns from businesses that serve alcohol is common sense. Society and the nation say “you’re not supposed to drink and drive. You’re clearly not supposed to drink and shoot,” he said.

imagesCAH89XPZThis is what they do in Chicago instead of doing something about the murder rate. So far this year, Chicago had about 27 percent more murders than New York City, which has three times the population. And Chicago had about 49 percent more murders than Los Angeles, which has 40 percent more people, according to statistics from the three police departments. Clearly, gun control doesn’t work. And what do liberals do when their plans fail? They double down push their gun control laws even harder. Does the Chicago City Council think the murder problem is caused by restaurants allowing legally carried concealed weapons? They must because if not, that means they are needlessly targeting Chicago businesses and attempting to do them financial harm as retaliation for allowing customers to claim the Constitutional right to bear arms. Not really all that surprising for Chicago. When corrupt politicians have ruled for decades it’s no surprise that their laws target law-abiding business people and do absolutely nothing about the murderous thugs that infest their city. I wonder if the Godfather Rahm Emanuel would like to take a walk on the south side of Chicago after dark, without his bodyguards. Probably not.

Gun control has never been about crime control.

More guns less crime.

It has always been about people control.

The so-called "youth gangs" are actually Chicago's narcotics distribution system. Millions of dollars flow from the streets to lord high politicians' pockets. Nobody in Chicago is going to do anything about violent crime.

We will NOT tolerate gun violence ... !!!

If the proper bans had been in place, THIS

would never have happened.

Fortuynately, the cops were on the ball and caught up with a bunch of suspects

Despite clear evidence that freedom and personal responsibility is the solution, control-oriented liberals (er, “progressives”) seek to retain and expand control.

It turns out that holders of concealed carry permits are a “demographic” that has one of the lowest rates of crime of any other demographic group, maybe even including law enforcement officers.

Consider the following:

>>
Between, October 1, 1987, and November 30, 2008, Florida issued permits to 1,439,446 people, many of whom have had their permits renewed multiple times. Only 166 had their permits revoked for any type of firearms related violation – about 0.01 percent. I was just looking up the new numbers. Updating those numbers to January 31, 2010, Florida has now issued permits to 1,704,624 people. The number who have had their permits revoked has risen to just 167. In 14 months, just one person with a Florida permit has lost his permit for a fire arms related violation. There are currently 692,621 valid permits. That is a revocation rate of 0.00014 percent.

I am glad that Illinois has concealed carry now, but we all should be honest.

Concealed carry is not going to stop the violence in Chicago. It is being carried out by a culture of those with poor impulse control and assassination protocols, the very anti-thesis of those who should be armed.

Concealed carry is great for those who might be victims of random violence, but those who are targeted and stuck in the never ending cycle of violence perpetuated by one culture in particular, it means nothing.

Jenner & Block has pledged to defend the city in courtfor free.... Jenner et al may not provide free services to the city unless they also provide (or otherwise procure) free services to the plaintif.

I'm wondering what Jenner & Block is getting (or has already gotten) out of this.

A restaurant does not have the means of enforcing any ban on guns. All it can do is call the police if a law has been broken, and this is not about breaking laws.
This action is illegal.

Stupidity.

Epic proportions.

Available now at your local dim-bulb-crat city council.

Remember why they are there.

What else could they do?

I would never eat in a gun-free zone. I would feel too much like a cow, munching on its grain, being prepped for the abattoir.

It’s all about forcing them to display a sign that says no weapons allowed. if youre caught carrying nin such an establishment, youre guilty of a state felony and lose your gun right permanently in addition to jail time and fines.

This is chicago trying to reverse the state concealec carry law. it will be challenged kn court immediately and chicago has had a very bad re=ord recently of having its gun laws upheld by courts.

There was a bite of rahmbo in the radio yesterday saying, “It doesnt take a ph.d....to know that drinking and guns dont mix. I believe that being sober and guns dont mix either.”

Rhambo wants to make sure that the only chicago citizens that can protect themselves against street violence is Rahmbo himxelf, via his taxpayer funded 24 hour a day armed bodyguards. Of course, Rahmbo’s boyguards are exempt from disarming themxelves in an establishment displaying such signage. Rahmbo is a hipocrite, obviously.

Next will be denying building permits and revoking occupancy permits to any property not displaying that sign. It will all end with Rahmbo getting his ass handed to him in a federal court. But only after wasting millions in taxpayer funds defending thr indefensible.

“Concealed carry is not going to stop the violence in Chicago”

True, but it may prevent a carrier from being murdered or a woman from being raped.

Bill of Attainder are illegal in the United States of America and is unconstitutional.

The Constitution of the United States, Article I, Section 9, paragraph 3 provides that: “No Bill of Attainder or ex post facto Law will be passed.”

Hey it worked in Texas yeas ago. At Lubby’s in Killen Tx, Susan Gratta left her handgun in her car, then then twenty five of the patrons were murdered, many others shot.
