Common Core Conspiracy Unraveling? (UPDATE) (Video)
http://www.examiner.com ^ | Sept. 2, 2013 | Bruce Price

Recent headline on an education site sums up the story: “The majority of public supports Common Core, but opposition is growing.”

Another ed site announced, with a map: “Breaking News: 20 States' Pending Legislation...to Reject or Limit Common Core."

Common Core Curriculum, steamrolled across the country several years ago and adopted by almost 45 states, may be faltering. Why do so many people consider this wonderful news? Here are 8 good reasons:

1) Common Core represents a federal takeover of education. This is a dream that progressives and liberals have pursued for a century. States and communities have traditionally been smart enough to resist this centralization of power. Education should remain a local concern. That is the only way the country will have diversity and choice.

2) Common Core was promoted in an unscrupulous way. The Obama Administration basically offered bribes to the individual states if they would cave. These bribes were called “Race to the Top” grants. In tight economic times, the states were seduced, some of them with irresponsible speed.

3) Common Core was sold aggressively to the public but many of the ideas were not field-tested nor proven to work. Little was explained in depth. Parents do not understand the degree to which a federally-mandated, one-size-fits-all approach would descend upon the country. It won’t be pretty.

4) Common Core has been developed by the same “experts” who have made a mediocre mess of public schools for more than 75 years. There is no reason to believe these incompetent people can operate at a higher level or want to. Indeed, many of the worst theories and methods used for decades have been cycled forward into Common Core.

Reasons 5 - 8 available at link.

Did they change the title after you posted? What’s “Weather Underground” have to do with the story?

We made those decisions before we had kids, and she followed through on them. I don’t think I would have divorced her if she had reneged, but I wouldn’t be very happy about it.

Sounds to me like your issue is your spouse.

Also, I don’t see how my “arguments” are disingenuous. I simply outlined what we did to make it work as an illustration that it can be done - but everyone has to be on board with the decision.

You are full of crap! Bush took Kennedy's education bill, watered it down, made schools and teachers accountable for student achievements and defunded fed. control. What is it with you people?

Well, Deb, it's like this - I actually paid attention to the news at the time. Teddy Chappaquiddick wrote the NCLB dreck legislation and Bush, not wanting to irritate the leftists, signed it as-is!

So, what is it with YOU people??

(BTW referring to anyone as "you people" is considered racist. Just thought you ought to know that for future reference!)

The only issue with homeschooling is this: 100% of SAT/ACT tests that ALL students must take for college acceptance will MANDATE CommonCore “knowledge” (leftist ideology, perverted history, “new” math that compels one to “show their work”, else they get zero credit, etc. these radical leftists have hijacked ALL testing that will comport to CommonCore standards, therefore, “checkmating” all parents, regardless of their schooling choice.

Ken, I did take liberties with the title. I am not intending to be indirect or to mislead, but in my research of CommonCore, I’ve discovered Bill Ayers was actually the education director and founder of the terrorist Weather Underground, responsible for all anti-America, subversive “education” of his fellow travelers in the 60s and 70s. Ayers has traded his bombs for books, designing curriculums that undermine American history, traditions and culture, Ayers is a, perhaps the, central architect of CommonCore, and his partners in crime are Arne Duncan, Barack Obama, George Soros, Bill Gates and many other radical leftists funding and guiding the “non-profit”, private trade association that brought CommonCore to life. Make no mistake, Barack and Michelle Obama believe ObamaCare and CommonCore are their two greatest accomplishments in the fundamental transformation of America. BOTH of these hideous program must be defended and destroyed..

My sister-in-law teaches at a Catholic school. They are not going to use Common Core.

The school isn’t a diocesan school, though.

Thanks. I had forgotten that.

I thought the same thing you did at first. I have my weather station on WU; was hoping I wasn't going to have to remove it. Heh.

Ya know, Deb, just sitting at your keyboard parroting that I’m wrong without providing any support for your argument doesn’t make you right, nor does it make you sound knowledgeable.

Offer some examples that prove me wrong.
