No, simply age and use. I’ve known it was fading for a couple months, bought a 1T external drive to back everything up in July. Didn’t have the wit to do daily backups and have lost everything since July 10th.

Thursday I could hear the drive’s whine dip and recover, dip and recover. Then it wouldn’t spool up at all on restart.

Purely a hardware issue.
