I made the mistake of accepting the offer to "try" the new interface. Apparently the microsoft dictionary defines "try" as permanently convert over with no possible method of reverting the the old method. That was years ago, I was so disgusted I got a new computer just to get away from the <heavy sarcasm quotes> "improved" </heavy sarcasm quotes> every command moved and hidden under layers of <heavy sarcasm quotes> "purdy" </heavy sarcasm quotes> icons in the new crapical user interfarce.

Perhaps in the intervening years someone has figured out how to go back to the classic interface?

Actually, though I'm not conversant with the details of it, I think that's true.

I have a friend with a small tablet computer that he brings to meetings, and it has both a bluetooth keyboard and a "skin" of past interfaces available.
