I feel so bad for my young friend whose husband is a farm worker who earns $8 hr. and they have no insurance and can’t get medicaid because he works. She says they will be worse off with obamacare (they can’t afford), and they are thinking of just paying the fine and continue with no insurance. Sad.

If that's all he earns, they will get Obamacare with huge subsidies. A couple can earn up to $62,000 and still get a subsidy of half. I gather he makes much less, so will get a bigger subsidy. And medicaid will be expanded to include those that make more than what is allowed right now. I think it's up to 150% of the poverty level, but don't quote me on that.

Yorkie, they have tried for years to get medicaid. No deal. they were able to get the state subsidy for the kids, but they have had to pay out of pocket for medical care all their married life. They always tell her that if he is working they can’t get welfare of any kind, but if they divorce, she can get it. she tells me that they will have to pay for insurance and it will be more than they can afford. She’s pretty up on things and smart girl. I think the problem is they are white.
