Oh dear. Is he setting up a contest of victimology?

I saw a Merv Griffith show once. He had on four guests, two African-Americans and two Jews. Each had a younger "hot-head" and an older serious, cautious speaker.

Merv had a good time listening to them claim bigger and worse victimology. THAT was his point. S*** happened; does happen and will continue to happen. That's life and Satan at work.

I have four letters and a 1,200 word essay on this subject but I will go with the letter titled Japanese Intransigence Provoked the Atomic Bombs or Japs and the Atomic Bombs: They Had It Coming

Arriving at VJ day demonstrated the critical role Kokutai played in surrender. Any prominent Japanese lived within an intimate spiritual fabric of Emperor, citizen, land, ancestral spirits, government, and Shinto religion.

Emperor Hirohito, foreseeing the probability of defeat, appointed a Peace Faction to his government in January 1944. However, this cultural imperative commenced a political kabuki through twenty months of continuous defeats, bombings of over 60 cities, and 1.3 million additional Japanese deaths.

The Japanese Privy Council debated the Final Battles arguments into physical and mental exhaustion for eleven hours following the Nagasaki bomb on August 9. For the final meeting Hirohito reluctantly invited Barron Hiranuma, who had fiercely disapproved of the war strategy. Hiranuma maintained the Emperor’s spiritual essence was independent of any imposed government. He reproved Foreign Minister Togo for never making concrete proposals to the Russians, and Minister Anami for accepting limitless nuclear warfare deaths without any opportunity to retaliate. The ministers had no answer, but remained unyielding.

At impasse Hirohito, the god-king, spoke the “Voice of the Crane” in the underground bunker. He would bear the unbearable, conclude the war, and accept government transformation. Only then did Japan contact Swiss and Swedish foreign offices to commence negotiations with allied belligerents.

The atomic bombs removed the Final Battles argument, allowing the War Faction to relent, Hirohito to assume his unprecedented roll, and no one to lose face. Their cabal remained within the fabric of Japanese from all eras who had sacrificed for Emperor and Empire.

Seaman has a point.

Japan has yet to really publicly acknowledge the atrocities committed by the Imperial Japanese government preceding and during WWII.

Many of the atrocities of the Japanese out strip the German atrocities. The Japanese research in to germ warfare could have killed millions had the had the time to complete and weaponise their research.

Japan has for all intents and purposes banned the publication of any history of Japan’s atrocities inside Japan’s boarders. It is keeping the truth from its citizens.

What was wrong with what he said?

Japan needs to own their agression during WW2.
I’m sure China agrees with his statements.

Pity Japan has this victim image within the anti-nuke crowd.

What he said. Those bombs saved my father’s life and the lives of millions of other allied soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines, as well as millions of Japanese.

“Instead, they should be commemorating the estimated 50 million Chinese, Korean, Filipino, Malay, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Indonesian, Burmese and other victims of Japanese imperial aggression and genocide.”

This statement is worth repeating.....

More Japanese and Americans citizens would have died if the bomb was NOT dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The bomb saved millions of lives on both sides of that war...

Nuking Iran might be similar.

Death by firestorm, by conventional weapons, or by nukes is still death... Peace activists tend toward unicorn silliness...
