Good point. Ernie Els, the lily white golfer from South Africa is an “African.” So are Egyptians and those from the Saharan countries. If Els immigrated to the US, I wonder if he would accept being called “African American.” lol

That would certainly be true for an American black, but not necessarily for an African black.

Afrikan is listed as a race in the countries on the Dutch trade routes in Africa. Kenya is one of them. It was changed to African about 1940 or around the time of WWII
