A worker in the U.S. who cannot compete on some level with a slave laborer on the other side of the world needs to find something else to do.

The problem is “high level” jobs are far fewer than “low level” jobs. Everyone can’t be a chief but everyone still needs to eat. Automation bridges the gap in manufacturing to the point anyone can be trained and therefore competitive.
