Two parent black families are an idea that will definitely help but it is an idea that is absolutely anti-PC so Democrats will never discuss or endorse it.

I see black students at the college level. On average, they do a shade less well than whites, but I don’t see many of the problems documented here. But, then again, we likely get the better ones. I have visited predominantly black schools on recruiting trips and some of the observations ring true.
I suspect the truth is somewhere in between. As for the authenticity of the essay, I find it hard to believe that anyone would stay in such a hopeless environment, regardless of the pay/benefits.
All one has to do is to look at the ‘home country’, Africa. While the rest of the world has evolved and modernized, Africa is still in some other century and will always be. They still commit genocide, fratricide and every other kind of ‘’cide’. Oh, and they still have to have their drugs.
I had the unfortunate experience of having to work in Nigeria. We were told by the Nigerian police that if there was ever an ‘incident’ between ‘visitors’ and ‘locals’ that we were not to stay in the ‘situation’ and that we were to drive to the nearest police station to report the ‘incident’.
One day while driving through a village our Nigerian driver ran over a chicken. The whole village got into an uproar and wanted to kill everyone in the vehicle for a CHICKEN!
The driver drove away just as fast as he could and, thankfully, we survived.
The Left dug their heels in on that with the whole Dan Quayle & Murphie Brown/Candice Bergen incident.
before the 1960s blacks seemed to do just fine in schools wit the same teaching everyone else received. they weren’t disruptive, and could sit in seats, and ask questions and anwer questions, and not destroy vending machines, and get decent grades, and had parents that pushed them to do better, and didn’t say they couldn’t do something because they were black, or felt that doing homework or classwork was ‘being white’.
The problem with the essay is that it is not “pure garage.” The problem is much of it is true, EXCEPT the underlying implicit assumption that the characteristics described in the essay are racially related.
By racially related I mean arising from a constellation of genetic traits associated with a generally recognized racial group. In short, because people are black. What the essay is describing are cultural traits of the American Black cultural experience and not traits of the black genetic code. I know this because there are lots of American blacks who do not have those traits and that there are lots of black-skinned people from other parts of the world who do not have those traits.
A sorry and significant percent of American Blacks have embraced a terrible and destructive modern culture that devalues dark-skinned people, recognizes and validates racist mindsets and rejects much of what amounts to successful behavior in a modern technological society. They have done so because another sorry and significant percentage of the American political elite has discovered that it is easier to maintain power if you have a large, ignorant, dependent population of distracted voters who need the elites to keep providing them social benefits.
You don’t have to take my word for it. If you look at all the hallmarks of success in America you will find that prior to Roosevelt (Franklin) and his ground-breaking practice of forging dependent sub-groups into a ruling majority (the first step down the road of the political social dependency cycle) American Blacks were not that much worse off than any other group.
In the North Blacks were moving into the middle class prior to the Depression and “ghettos” in northern cities were financially diverse; much like the Polish, Italian and Irish immigrant ghettos. In the South poverty still ruled Black life has a whole, but there were white sharecroppers just as poor as Black ones. In saying this I do not discount the effect of racism nor sugarcoat the monetary result of prejudice. Nevertheless, Black families were intact (25% unmarried parenting vs. 75% today) and the rich, middle class and poor blacks lived together in a cultural atmosphere that valued education, hard work toward individual success, respect for the criminal laws and coherent families. The march of the American political Progressive state has destroyed much of that social coherence and established a Black lower-class caste culture that welds Black voters to the service state while insuring that few members of the caste will escape.
I am convince that genetic racism is evil, foolhardy and destructive. I am also convinced that it exists outside of those who are traditionally considered racists. The person who accepts, even implicitly, the lesser role within a racist hierarchy is just as much of a racist as the loud mouth idiot who proclaims their racial superiority. The American urban Black culture accepts its role as the “victim” race because of the value of that role to both the individuals who depend on it for benefits and because ruling political elites believe it makes them, as group, easier to control. America has done rather well in removing the superiority racists, but has yet to tackle those that embrace genetic racism as victims. Until that happens the underlying belief in genetic racism will not die its justly deserved death.
So as much as the implication of the essay is wrong and offensive, we must recognize the value of the essay in its description of a destructive culture that is growing every day in America and killing people. If we don’t acknowledge that this culture exists, name it for what it is and proclaim its evil results we will be left with only the implicit conclusion that genetic race is the cause of what everyone understands to be truth on the ground. What this essay says is not news to anyone - we all know what goes on. We either talk about it now or it will poison almost the last chance we will have to become a true post-racial society.
This kid was eventually removed from the class by the “hall monitor” or equivalent but I’m sure that was just fine by him so he’d no doubt do the exact same thing again. This kid was very odd looking, corn rows, almost effeminate looking but totally dead eyes. I was told the other kids were afraid of him or deferred to him just based on his dad’s high status in the gangs. If this kid makes it to age 25 I’d be surprised, to age 30 shocked. You can just tell that his life will be one tragedy after another and likely end very badly and violently.
On the one hand I agree with the many profound points you have made.
But on the other - how do you come to grips with the point made in #65?

Nigeria is a diverse country struggling to modernize after centuries of corruption, imperialism, tribalism and war. It educates its young people better than our urban schools on less money, has more cultural agreement within its range of financial success and struggles with bringing really backward people into a modern society. In short, its like we were 100 years ago.
It does not have the uniform, non-diverse victim/benefit culture that marks the American urban culture where young people kill one another at a rate that mimics a war zone. Its sure as Hell-Fire not perfect, but it shows a commonality with us as whites more than it shows a differentiation.
Where Africa is similar you will also find the progressive -socialist service state (South Africa, Zimbabwe, etc) where the need for dependent populations results in the same kind of group/cultural control.

I had the EXACT same experience in an all-black NYC high school. No time to listen to the subject matter, too busy making excuses for themselves, dancing around the classroom, having no idea of proper classroom decorum, telling the teacher to "suck my d_ck" in every other sentence, threatening to "find you after school and jump you", jumping on each other in their seats, coming late to class, wandering the halls in herds instead of attending class, stuffing their faces with junk food in the classroom, throwing materials around, throwing potentially injurious stuff right at me, and just acting out in general to deliberately disrupt the lesson. If they are not interested, why should anyone be able to learn anything?
The minute I hear "da white man keep us down" or any similar excuse, I just want to gag. No one is keeping them down except THEMSELVES. They foul their own nest and then they want to come to your neighborhood (thank you, busing!) and foul yours. You work your rear end off so that your kids can go to a nice school--so that the ghettokinder can come there, beat up your kid, destroy equipment, scar the desks with graffiti, and disrupt the classes so no one can learn.
Of course, it's the TEACHER'S fault, don't you know.
the exceptions are the few that study, they are the oreos, the uncle toms - considred that way by all the rest of the blacks that believe doing well in school is ‘acting white’.
It has never been proven that bonus pay motivates teachers to "teach harder". The vast majority of teachers that I know work their rear ends off as a matter of fact.
I challenge YOU to kill yourself enthusiastically researching and writing lessons, acquiring "props" (videos, hands-on materials, interesting projects), etc. and then, not being able to even utilize these materials as you are shouted down in your own classroom or witness any of the behaviors cited here over a course of months or years, not become cynical. You know there's a better life out there through education, and the students in your classroom could not care less. Your message falls on deaf ears. It's like a moth repeatedly banging itself against a storm door.
Your statements ("Freedom for the educators, getting past the route memory now encouraged by these standardized tests...") sound like someone whose knowledge of the educational system comes from reading the liberal media. Statistics are easily manipulated to serve agendas. There is no clear evidence of superior results for charter schools. There is no "freedom" for educators; they must follow the curriculum (and now, with Common Core, there will even less freedom) and the students must still take state-mandated standardized tests. You are in la-la land if you think differently.

The urban schools are a tragic, expensive mess. That's not something I just read in the paper. That's from years of personal experience.
There are many specific reasons for this failure, but only one root cause: the liberal policies that started with LBJ and continue to this day. Obama has only made a bad situation worse.
By the way, in the worst urban school I taught at, there was one very successful mainstream program. It was Junior ROTC, and it was run by a no-nonsense retired army colonel.
Sometimes I think that all urban high school principals should be retired military officers. But I suppose a Marine sergeant would do just fine too.
As the man said…we should have picked our own cotton…..
