What is your favorite aviation movie?
one man's opinion...
Posted on 07/06/2013 4:42:52 PM PDT by ken5050
Well, the cable news networks are non stop with their coverage of the air crash in San Francisco. Looking at the pictures, it seems a miracle that the number of fatalities is so low. If there is one unintended consequence of this crash..at least we will be spared talk about Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman for the next few days. As the networks are talking aviation and nothing but, I thought it would be a slight diversion to discuss our favorite aviation themed movies.

I remember that....many thanks..
Since we're obviously getting into military films, "The Battle of Britain" is first rate. When the film was being made, the production company was the 5th largest air force in the world..Most of those planes were later scrapped..
Another good one is "633 Squadron"...

Strategic Air Command, Spirit of St Louis, and anything else with Jimmy Stewart in it. The Right Stuff also. I’m a lifelong Yeager fan.

I always thought it was a very enjoyable movie as well. Horrifying to consider the plane cut in half, falling all the way to the ground, screaming all the way.
Ugh.

Looks like a B-17 shadow. Was the camera supposedly aboard it.

I think some of the same clips were in both Tora Tora Tora and Midway.

They are all brain dead lefties. I have come to terms with it and I just like to watch the movie. I don’t want to know that Sly Stallone is a gun grabbing moron. I still like his stuff. None of them really has any effect on what happens in the country as far as politics.

I know people will laugh at this one, because the premise of the movie is so damn stupid, but I think that is what made it so fun to watch.
“The Final Countdown”.
I admit it, I am a sucker for time travel, no matter how stupid or dumb. But I love the scene where the Tomcats fly over the yacht...can you imagine? People would have thought they were aliens.
In the scene where the Tomcats dogfight the Zeroes, one of the Tomcats flew MUCH closer to the deck than they intended to...

Yeah, that’s one of the little things in the movie that make the flying scenes so much fun. Good catch though!
