I was thinking that if you lived in Mississippi at the time, and went to Jackson, it must have felt like going to New York City, compared to the rest of the State.
The Gulf Coast was nice. Not that I was there, but I’ve seen relatives’ pictures who were vacationing there. It didn’t have all the high rise hotels, but it had nice little cottages and small hotels.

Actually, at that time, Meridian was the hub of the state because of the railroad.
