I’m pretty ignorant of this subject. Exactly what advantage is there to an organization to get C4 status?
If you don’t get C4, if you get $1,000,000 in donations and spend it all on ads promoting a political position are do you have to pay taxes on a $million? or can you deduct the $million cost of the ads?
your donors don’t get to claim a deduction
that inhibts donors
Are we sure IRS only target conservative 501(c)4 groups?
Is there other conservative or liberal, (you may never know), 501(c) groups being targeted?
Your typical homeowners association is a 501(C)4. You as a homeowner don’t get to deduct the amounts you pay to the association like you might a gift to a charitable organization authorized under 501(C)3 but your HOA will not be taxed for the HOA fees you pay them provided they spend 90% on HOA related expenses, e.g. insurance, mowing lawn, cutting trees, etc.
It’s not just the taxes ,, tax exempt “issue” groups get different advert rates too.
