SACRAMENTO One of the most controversial gun-control bills introduced in California this year a move to seize the 166,000 registered assault weapons grandfathered in under the state's ban is dead, its author said Thursday. When Assemblyman Rob Bonta, D-Oakland, introduced AB174 in January, it was designed to declare the Legislature's intent to end all "grandfather clauses" allowing ownership of assault weapons and large-capacity magazines.
But on Tuesday, he gutted and amended the bill to address public-school health centers instead.
Coincidentally, it was the same day that U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced he won't include Sen. Dianne Feinstein's proposed reinstatement of the federal assault weapons ban in the gun-control bill he brings to the floor.
Bonta said Thursday that he came to realize his proposal was a nonstarter............

Only another 20 million Kalifornia gun grab bills to go.
That's because he realized he would be target numero uno.
My bet is that they will disarm the population through attrition and misinformation. It would be foolish to confront the public head on. It will take years but that is their plan.
More gun-grabbers bailing, leaving King Andrew alone out on the ledge. King Andrew the Tyrant of NY is the only moron nationwide to take rights from law-abiding citizens, in order to try and curb the violence of the lawbreakers. King Andrew and the NYS Ship of Fools.
This article is a classic example proving what we’ve said all along. They want registration so they can have a list to work from for confiscation in the future. This idiot in California should become a poster child for opposing registration nationawide. Heck, worldwide!
Another communist heard from....
Figure about 10% of the people in California who owned “assault weapons” at the time when they were told to register ever actually did registered them.
How could it possibly be a non-starter in California? The Demons own all three branches of government here.
I lived in California back in 1989 when this gun-grabbing BS started in ernest.
At that time, it was estimated that there were 1 - 2 million semi-automatic rifles in California. 166,000 is the number of individuals who actually registered their so-called “assault weapons.” Most gun owners did not comply.
I remember watching an L.A. news station back in ‘89 when they showed a housewife in Simi Valley who bought a semi-automatic version of the UZI. She said she was storing it underneath her bed. My kind of woman!
Vote every Democrat out of office next year. That’s the only way to assure the death of these gun-grabbing bills in states and nationally.
My guess is that he got HUGE pressure from Obama, Bloomberg, Pelosi, & Reid to drop it...
Can you imagine these asshats trying to pass national background checks and defacto registration while CA passes a bill to seize all registered weapons?
The “optics” wouldn’t be too good.
Mark
But...you can “trust” the U.S. gov’t with registration, ya know....
Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not after you!
Oh, please don’t forget about our own dear Gov. Lickin’-Pooper, Court Jester and official lickspittle to King Andrew and Prince Michael...
His Chief of Corrections murdered (likely) by a white supremacist gang member parolee, the son of a friend of our dear guv, all the while dear guv signs into “law” a bill that effectively renders illegal the magazines for virtually every semi-automatic gun we Coloradans own...
Parole the killers, disarm the citizens; is that the plan John?
Colorado is changing...Denver and Boulder driving that change...Flood the state with 3rd world people who don’t share our values or beliefs, then wonder why...
Magpul has the right idea...Git while the gittin’s good; before Colofornia gets any riper...
Perfect paranoia makes perfect awareness.
I don't doubt for a second that they aren't hoping for someone to take a shot at one of them so they have something to use for a renewed push complete with an armed response. They all think it will be someone else because their hubris won't allow them to believe it could be them, so they are eager to make the sacrifice "for the greater good". We must be pissing them off with our restraint...they know that their side of the aile supporters would have done something by now 9if you discount that all the mass shootings appear to have come from their side).
Agreed. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't keep them wondering....and worried!
My how times have changed. Back in the 1980’s I bought an AK-47, three 30 round magazines, and 500 rounds of ammo in california and walked out the gun store with it all the same day. I’m glad me and my guns are out of california now.
