'Lincoln' Screenwriter: Obama Win a Rejection of 'Psychotic' Reagan Era Ideology
Newsbusters ^ | February 15, 2013 | Geoffrey Dickens

Tony Kushner, the screenwriter behind the Oscar nominated movie 'Lincoln,' compared Barack Obama to the 16th president and called the defeat of Mitt Romney a "rejection" of the "Reagan era ideology" that leads to a "frightening" path of "psychotic individualism."

Appearing on Thursday's edition of PBS's Charlie Rose show the openly gay playwright called Obama's evolution on same-sex marriage "Lincolnian" and roasted Ronald Reagan, Romney and the Tea Party:

(VIDEO AT LINK)

TONY KUSHNER: So you have people like these Tea Party people protesting government and then asked if they really want to give up their Social Security payments. And they don't seem to know that, that is actually part of what government is. There's a rejection of the sort of basic idea of human community behind the Reagan, behind Reagan era ideology that is really frightening. And it leads us to terrible, terrible places.

And now that we're facing challenges like climate change that absolutely demand a global collective response, an organized global collective response. We have no hope for survival as a species if we continue down the path of this kind of psychotic individualism...I think we're beginning to see, in the last election we saw, I think, a real rejection. I mean what Romney basically had to offer was the same old trickle-down nonsense and people said I don't believe it any more.

After that rant, Kushner told Rose he was able to sing Obama's praises to his face, when he screened the movie for him: "I also got to say to him at the White House, I thought the way he handled same sex marriage was Lincolnian."

Kushner then continued the historic parallels when he revealed he and his Upper West Side friends woke up terrified on Election Day...

Glad I haven't wasted my money on going to see that thing, not that I have any extra these days.

Kushner talks like someone who has trouble with too many recreational drugs.

Really a good movie regardless of the views of the homosexual paranoid Kushner. Too bad the pervert gets his cut from the ticket sales, but oh well.

I wouldn’t go to see it if it was free. And what is it with these idiots thinking we live in a democracy? The Founding Fathers equated democracy with mob rule and wanted none of it.

Funny how liberals can only imagine “basic human community” in terms of government.

And I’m not surprised the screenwriter is a gay Obama fanboy. When I watched the movie it felt like one giant shout out to Obama.

The oft-made comparisons of the two presidents are relevant vis-a-vis our Constitution..

Lincoln: Lincoln defended his suspension of the writ of habeas corpus:

should everything fail because that one law "made in such extreme tenderness of the citizens' liberty that practically it relieves more of the guilty than of the innocent . . . [cannot] to a very limited extent be violated?" You want "the government itself go to pieces?"

Obama: the Constitution has to be ignored to save the Government.

I heard Kushner's comments and felt that "Lincoln" probably is just another example of the "nonpartisan" media that is used to influence apolitical voters.

Heard a clip of this clown on Rush today at lunch.

Conscience seared with a hot iron spastic.... Confused, bedeviled and nearly incoherent babble.

The media is the originator of the "trickle down nonsense." Tax cuts that generate economic growth started with JFK in the modern era.

The Marxist nancy was pissing all over Individualism.

Not sure why Rush mentioned the punk’s alleged 140/”Mensa” IQ. That’s farm league.

Without concentrations of wealth there would be no funding to produce the idiot’s screenplays.

What is this fairy bitching about ? Willard's nomination was the repudiation of Reagan by the party establishment. When the party decides to run a non-Socialist against a regular Democrat Communist and the nation rejects them, get back to me.

Those who live in a state of individual freedom and those who demand collective control cannot and will never be able to “coexist”. They must live in separate realms. And, no amount of alarmism regarding environmental or other global threat can bring justification for the demands of collectivists. Collectivists are a deadly threat to hope, freedom, and the very safety of mankind. I have come to believe that Lincoln’s vision of a unified nation cannot be sustained as long as collectivists continue to inflict their tyrannical acts on Americans. They must renounce the American system and set up their own collectivist state. Americans have suffered too much due to collectivists. The economic, social, and human damage the collectivists have caused cannot be repaired until they are no longer actively attacking America.

You see, the “progressives” seem to think that if they just simply CALL something what they WANT it to be (for example: democracy) and WISH really, really hard; it will eventually “evolve” into what they want.
