Google the 29 Palms Questionnaire. This dates back to 1988 if I recall rightly. Marines stationed at the 29 Palms Marine base in California were asked this question back then. It created a firestorm of controversy. I thought at the time it was a harbinger of bad things to come. Looks like it may well be nigh.
I went through MCAGCC in 1984 and took that survey. All of us looked at each other and said, wtf?
Bet the results are a little different today.

You’re wrong. That survey showed that 64% of Marines would not shoot Americans, The boots and privates might be susceptible to such an illegal order, but the sergeants and captains would correct them. The idiot officers who gave such a command would be fed to the alligators in the Carolina swamp.
