Many years ago, when I was active duty, we were given a questionnaire and one of the questions was “would you fire on U.S. citizens if ordered” or words to that effect. This was under Carter. I believe they received a resounding NO. This is only my speculation from conversations with others. There were a few that said they would kill anyone they were told to. Generally your moron type that was not very good at their job nor anything else but swilling booze any chance they had. Speaking with active duty and newly released military ( most with combat experience)nothing has changed. Maybe a few more morons. I think any officer that ordered troops to fire might feel the sting himself!

Spudville,
Thanks for that report about that old survey and for the update about this latest one!
Wasn’t the title of the old one “combat arms survey “?
I remember the stink it stirred up.... and that was d@m close to twenty years ago!
