I’ve gone to the school president - who e-mailed a certain number of parents - and put a single sentence in a 3 page newsletter...
I also went up to this person - told him to move - his reply was, “I’m waiting for my daughter to come out of the school - dropping my kids off - go park back there.” My tone in my voice showed that I wasn’t impressed...
These parents know full well that they aren’t suppose to be parking there - let along parking in that way that blocks both spots...I think it’s rude and demonstrated lack of respect for those that are truly disabled...and I fully understand the disc problem and left leg issue...but it wasn’t like you parked there and went skipping into the store singing some Disney song either...just wondering....thanks for your reply...
I think you meant to answer me. No... didn’t skip at all. Took me about eight minutes to walk from the spot to the store. It fortunately was a one time event and to be honest.. at that point, I would have taken the ticket. It was that bad. I have another suggestion that I hope helps: contact your local police department and speak to the Sgt of the traffic division. Explain to him or her the issue and that it has been addressed by the school administration and is still being ignored. Request an officer to drive by one afternoon that week.
If the school administration has contacted the parents and you have verbally asked them to move their rude butts... perhaps it is time for a ticket. Have you ever noticed how people will watch their car speed AFTER radar has been set up on a certain road?
The waiting deal is annoying.
(As a side note, go inside and get your child, said to the other parent)
Yet, if this person has a placard there is nothing you can do, if they don’t call to have them towed away.
In your example, you seem to single out a single person, guilty of (perhaps) multiple infractions. Is this the case? If so, how many handicap parking spots are there? Are the rest legally being used?
If you have approached this person and explained your circumstances, and they still don't understand, you are right to escalate the matter. It appears the school president (principal), has taken some action, although ineffective. It may be possible that this person doesn't read those newsletters, as they appear to be out of touch with their surroundings.
That said, what would YOU suggest the school president do? Why don't you offer them al alternative solution? While they appear sympathetic to your needs, short of physically monitoring the parking spots for offenders, what else can they do? One of you--yourself or the school president--must appeal to this idiot's senses. Is there any type of security at the school...could they monitor the situation?
If nothing else works, perhaps your local law enforcement could look into it, though I don't know how aggressive they could be with parking enforcement on (what sounds like) private property.
Good luck to you.
