Some states give out the permits to whoever asks. In those states, all the spots are always taken.
What is Indiana like?
You have to show proof - there’s a process and review...at least we had to - like DR. prescription and diagnoses from a qualified medical personnel with accompanying physical description...
Not in California.
The doctor has to fill out the form, and submit medical records if asked by the state.
So you do get it the same day you turn in all the paperwork, but handed out willy nilly - nope.
I have a “handicapped” parking permit in Indiana. Here you need to have a form signed by a doctor to get it. Personally I call the permit my “gimp ticket.” That took a while before my wife got comfortable with that.
When I lived in California they were everywhere. Once the cops in SF did a bit of checking and found that nearly 80% of the tags in use were fraudulent. Heck, I had guys offering to sell one to me on the street, just like fake Rolex watches.
Agreed. The law should be that they are displayed in clear sight and have traceable serial numbers, and that expire every 6 months or 12 months. Right now, they are being abused but scumbags who do not need them.
