The punishment for abortion s always laid at the feet of the abortionist. They are a paid assassin. They should receive a penalty commensurate with whatever the punishment the INDIVIDUAL STATE describes. Just like they do with every other violent crime, like rape or murder. These are state crimes. Abortion, prior to the idiotic decisions in Roe, backed up by the equally idiot discovery of constitutional privacy in Griswold, would revert back to the states as it did prior to 1972.

My personal belief is that a strong charge against the abortionist would be enough to eliminate most instances of the act.
