Generally agreed, but it will take more than the first black president being the worst, most racially divisive president in modern history to ‘end’ affirmative action. Colin Powell could have made a difference. If he had been the Republican presidential candidate in ‘96 and won, this whole thing about race and the presidency would have been resolved with far less damage. But Powell turned down the best chance to do good in his life and now he is hobnobbing with racists, partisan hacks and religious bigots. What a disappointment Powell has turned out to be.
No, I think you are wrong. It takes a black President to display the problems with affirmative action (and he has done a great job of that). Any other President could not have made things so obvious without raising doubts.
Now you may be right that it will take a different President (race) to follow through but it will be at his peril. It is time though to end the discrimination by Government if you really want equal opportunity for all. It will take someone with solid convictions though and the guts to follow through. I doubt that Romney is capable of that though so it will probably be delayed again.
