Vote for My Son Guitar Playing? (with link)
98.3 The Snake ^ | 10/25/12 | knak

Ok, I'm trying this again with a link this time. Sorry about double posting.

Is it ok to ask for help from my fellow freepers to help my son win a contest on the radio? If so, please give me a hand. He's a bit shy but is a great rock guitar player and writes his own music. He entered a contest called "Repeat It or Delete It" and was accepted. He's only 17, records in his room with computerized drums for backup and is up against a full band. Here's the info, please give me a hand!

Ok, this is the week my son James Hess needs your vote in the Repeat It or Delete It contest on the radio. Wednesday evening (10/24/12) they will start playing the two bands competing. To vote you have to sign up as a VIP member at 98.3thesnake.com When you sign up you automatically get 2500 points and the vote costs 500 points. Click on the Repeat It or Delete It link with two bands, James Hess, and the other guys, and look for the link that says Vote Now. Please vote for him, he's a one man band (guitar player) up against real bands! Thanks everybody!

I listened to both contestants.

The Barking Owls are a very polished band and I'm sure playing pro gigs.

Your son, while playing chops that I can only dream of playing, represents one of hundreds of very similiar players on youtube that I really enjoy listening to. However, nothing unique.

To be truthful, I can't in good conscience help to pad his votes to win over a group of musicians who very much deserve to win this competition.

Given some more time and experience (he really, really, really needs to "play out" with other musicians) he'll become competitive.

The recording of ”The Everchanging” sucks. The drums suck. The distortion just about blew my speakers out. But your son, WOW! He owns that guitar! He has a great deal of talent! But that's getting lost in crappy drums, recording and distortion.

Barking owls are at 42.55%, Your son 57.45% I voted for your son.

Give him this link: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=104418&content=music

It is RealDrummer's page. He has some real drums that you can download for free and play to. It's ready made drums different speeds that you can play your music to. And it sounds like a real band when you record because you're playing along with it.

If your son doesn't already have it have him download ACIDplanet's ACID EXPRESS, it's free and he can load up the drums on it then record while it's playing the drums at the same time. I have a CD called "Drums on Demand" and it works really good with the ACID software. You can pick and choose the beats that you want. If he likes the program he can buy it in stores cheaper then online. And the full program that you buy in the stores records in wave files or mp3's

Also he can buy drum beats here and bass too: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/drumtools

This is me and Chuck Spera, he's RealDrummer it's his drum beats I told you about above. We did this a few years ago. We did it online. He had some music but no lyrics. He played it for me over a chat program and the lyrics just popped outta my mouth. I recorded myself singing along with his music track with my ACID program (mine it the full program) I sent it back to him and he added sounds and here it is, just to show you what your son can do all by himself

"Santa's Gonna Bring My Baby Back To Me Tonight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IC49KaxCcKA

Good luck!

The boy had a couple of strings out of tune..

The Owls were mostly in tune except for vocally..
The Owls “get it”... by a slim margin..

But both were so, so... nothing special..

I know they’re more polished, he’s trying to find a group of more dedicated players to play with. It’s been tough to find others in our town, it’s kind of small. Thanks for listening anyway. Just trying to get his music out there.

Thanks to everyone who voted for him.
