I was going to tell you $10,000 to a good lawyer might get the problem solved. But I see that you are in California, so better make that $20K for a good lawyer.
Or save your money and tell your son to quit stumbling around drunk after midnight. At least he wasn't driving - that would have put him in a world of hurt these days.

were you there? Walking home from a party they may have approached him. he probably smelled like a brewery and was belligerent ( as most drunks are)when asked for id and where he was coming from and where he was going. Was he of legal age to drink???
You sound as if you want your kid to get off. You ought to be paying attention to what your child is doing. Being drunk at any age and encountering the police is not a good sign

My son had to learn the hard way as well. In the end, it was a good lesson. Sounds like your son did the right thing by fessing up and taking his lumps.
I would back off and stop making excuses for him.
