Great story. The only thing I found odd is that I don't think that the federal government could arrest 2000 people in a couple of weeks without at least 10% of the arrests going sideways. Whether that means they arrest the wrong person, go to the wrong house, are met with strong resistance, met with enough resistance for the accused party to initially escape, or made such a mess that it didn't come to immediate attention of the public. Keep in mind that this is 142 arrests a day requiring an absolute minimum of 428 agents, and only that amount if you assume that the same agents work every arrest. It would probably be closer to 2500 agents to arrest the 2000 people. Out of that 2500 at least 3% would have serious problems with the arrests.

Makes you think doesn't it? That being part of the 10% that effectively resisted could save a lot of people that are on the list after you?

Good critique, a few points about them. First, the public can’t learn anything during that first week of a major ME war, with cyber blowback in the USA. What little news is being reported will be about the war, not some rumors about wrongful arrests. That is why they waited for the smoke and noise of the war to blend the 2,000 purge arrests into a roundup of suspected Iranian terror cells etc.

And keep in mind that this is from the POV of Jacinda Hamden, presidential advisor; it’s not a law enforcement AAR.

Which leads in turn, to the one practical joke I’d **LOVE** to see:

Imagine, it’s a major address to the nation from the floor of the House. . .

Zero gets rolling, reading off the telepromter, which suddenly feeds him:

We’re no strangers to love. . . .

You know the rules, and so do I. . .

A. . .Full committment. . . is what I’m thinking of. . .

You wouldn’t get this, from any other guy. . . .”

Imagine: RickRolling the WORLD. . . (evil grin)

Sorry I didn't mean it to be a story critique and understandably Valerie Jacinda wouldn't be privy to every problem with the round up, I'm just stating that there would be problems regardless of a war starting and a complete news blackout. Problems that "the public" ie:neighbors, local press, local family, local law enforcement, couldn't help but notice but might not come to Jacinda's attention.

TM,

What do you think can be done to recreate the intellectual environment that existed on FR at one time?

That was an excellent story, BTW.

Turn the calender back to 2001? Time moves on, and the internet evolves and changes.

No doubt, many, many problems. But they would be tiny compared to cities on fire in the M.E., American trains and planes crashing, pipelines and the electric grid etc going haywire, and the internet largely down. Who would you tell? Your neighbors, by word of mouth? What would that matter, in the first few weeks?

Well, there are radios and clandestine radio stations, aren’t there? I could see an ad hoc bucket chain of dialups, computer bulletin boards, satellite links and hams and CB’ers taking shape. When info REALLY wants to get around, it will find a way, even if just leaflets on the street or stickers in bathroom stalls.

Anything electronic or radio will be totally dominated by the forces of big brother. Any attempts to unify resistance that way will only be monitored, data-mined, social network analyzed, and will lead to mass arrests or detentions. And most of the “calls to patriots” will be false-flag ops by big brother, reeling in the naive.
