I hate “rewards cards” and “club cards” and try to shop at stores that don’t use them.
The problem is at our local food market (not a national chain) without the swipe card you don’t get the discounts.
And without the discounts, the alternatives are the mobs at WalMart or the unions of Kroger.

I ask if I get a discount if I sign up for their card.
When they respond NO, I say well no thanks then.
I protest the use of rewards cards by carrying a big wad of them rubber banded together. When asked if I have one for that store I pull out the wad and go through it painfully slowly. When I get to the end I say I must have missed it and start through the pack again. By then the clerk gives up and offers to use the in store card they have which I gladly accept.

Ditto. BUT... If you use a credit/debit card, they’re following you just as much.
If the customer in front of me in line doesn’t have a rewards card, I suggest they use mine, and they get a several dollar discount. The clerks are generally amused at that.
