Many do not know that when she was converted to an angle deck carrier, to offset the added weight of the angle deck, some of her starboard holds were filled with concrete. However, someone screwed up the calculations, cuz she had a permanent 3 degree list to port.

Did they really "not know" about the surrender?
Or were they obeying orders and refusing to give up?
Or were they afraid of what would happen if they surrendered?
I doubt it was like the movie where Eva Gabor kept Ken Berry in the dark about the end of the war because she was in love with him.
