Wow-the family is gracious and hospitable enough to have Gaby,probably proud to do so, and this is the thanks they get from her mother? Just wow. Why should the host family be expected to know all the inner secrets of styling black hair, if it's such an esoteric thing? If it's yet another one of those things that "whites wouldn't understand, you gotta be black", then why blame them for not understanding, if that really is the case? These kinds of things make me want to scream, when no matter what whites do, it will be wrong. That's why I've adopted the principle of "why even bother? I won't get any A for effort, I'll just be handing them ammunition to use against me. Rather than do that to myself, I'll just leave them the heck alone so that if they want to find something to blame me for, they'll have to make it up out of thin air." That's my philosophy of life for this situation. If I leave you alone and do NOTHING for you, you can't then be mad because I did it wrong. I just won't do it at all.
